Speaking with national committee representatives worldwide during a knowledge sharing session on Monday, John Denton set out strategic and personal priorities for the coming year, detailed components of ICC’s ongoing transformation and the creation of an NC/HQ engagement model which aims to formalise engagement across core business units in support of ICC policy, tools and services. John also touched on ICC ambitions to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize as a way of showcasing how the private sector is a force for enabling peace, prosperity and opportunity for all.
Andrew Wilson provided an update on work undertaken over the past year to enhance ICC’s global policy offering and impact, including governance reforms across all ICC policy commissions and a streamlined work programme. Andrew outlined objectives to provide value-added services to the ICC network under three focus areas for improvement: corporate engagement, content generation and external impact.
ICC’s Raelene Martin and Caroline Inthavisay presented on the work and priorities of the Global Environment and Energy Commission and the Global Competition Commission respectively while in a dedicated segment on Global Partnerships and Development Mary Kelly presented results of the NC Development Fund, Julian Kassum provided detail on the development of the HQ/NC Engagement Model and Gabriel Petrus gave an update on the work of the ICC Centre of Entrepreneurship.
More than 140 people from ICC NCs and HQ participated, with 63 NCs represented.

Town Hall: ICC Chair highlights SME advocacy and discusses his next career phase
“People get inspired by doing the right thing and ICC is doing the right thing.” In his last six months as ICC Chair, Ajay Banga addressed ICC staff at this week’s town hall meeting, highlighting the “multiplying factor” of ICC national committees as one of the organisations biggest assets. Asked what he would like to advance in his last six months as Chair, Ajay said that he was looking forward to seeing movement on ICC advocacy for SMEs, our work to drive trade and economic growth in a sustainable way and implementation of plans to invest in our digital and physical infrastructure. Ajay, who recently became a great-grandfather, has no plans to retire any time soon and also set out ambitions to continue working to reduce inequality. We’re inspired!
